Ceo's should get $0 / year for working for a company, they should get stock, and if they do well the stock gets more valuable, and they get paid, if it doesn't they have severe cash flow problems and have to correct what they're doing or hand the position over to someone that does. In the case of the auto industry, it's not only the unions but the fact that the cars themselves are not as good as foreign cars. Everyone is getting a Toyota, Honda or Hyundai these days. But I believe that the root problem is the unions. When you've got unions, you've got inflated wages and contracts which make it difficult to lay people off. What I also can't understand: your candidates are saying so many words about the needing and how to help them (social programs, insurence reforms etc) and they spend hundreds of mlns $ on the elections. Is that effective? Of course, according to economic theory, it may be effective with all the assymetries & imperfections, if, in the end, the best choice is made, but G. At least he realized that the world has seriously changed since the 90's, when the USA were all by themselves after the collapse of the USSR, no one could oppose them, national interests were rarely on the table at that time. "The winner takes it all policy" has resulted in too many mistakes. DLP good comments, I disagree the problem isnt puting a roof over their head the problem is giving loans to people who cant afford them. These people werent living in the streets before they found out they could buy a house with bad or no credit. the regulations are to protect the institutions and in turn protect the home buyer essentially from themselves.
