A few years after that, '87 or '88, my friend & I went to return a video. While waiting, they had a Windham Hill sampler video playing on the display TV. Here's this white cornrowed guy with this freakish instrument (accoustic harp-guitar), drawing out sounds I never would've conceived w/mesmerizing motion, eyes closed w/that deep, contented smile, his body just grooving w/the sound from head to foot. "Aerial Boundaries" was the opening track on the album of the same title. The room was silent ... reverential. I remembering staring out of a window and imagining an eagle or hawk soaring (with purpose). He looks so young in this video -- maybe he had just composed the tune. What talent!

To be honest, I don't really enjoy "Aerial" much. After such a long hiatus, I expected more from Kate than some rather moody, tiresome tracks that surely didn't need to be split across two discs. I attributed her apparent "laziness" to being rusty. ..particularly after revisiting her older albums and considering them against "Aerial." That may be unfair to do, however, so I don't complain too much. "King..." is a solid track, though strangely familiar. Its video doesn't help much with that...

I don't know man, if I was listening to this without knowing it was a cover, I'd have no trouble thinking it was a live recording of Hedges, with some improvisation at the end. It really is that good :). The soul of Hedges is in the music, not in the technical aspects of playing as loveisnow2 seems to imply (though that's obviously a requirement, and one you've fulfilled already). So if you can make music that deep and amazing, you definitely can walk in Hedges' footsteps.

But I do hope that in the large space left by his footsteps I might be able to walk there too :) I do this tune on youtube because for me it is kind of a fingerstyle "standard." I would agree. The amazing thing about Hedges was not what he played, but what he didn't play: so much of his music depends on stopping strings from vibrating as much as getting them vibrating. "Two Days Old" is a perfect example of that.

Hedges tunes are far more difficult than don ross tunes. You can tell a hedges cover that isn't phrased right, but with don ross' tunes you can go anywhere with them and they sound great. Don ross is a great introduction to fingerstyle guitar though, he's got all the tech stuff down to a tee

not really, yamaha takamine and ibanez fall more into that category. taylors are some of the finest sounding and readily available acoustics out there. the sound they produce is great (much better than martins at least) they also have great expression system. untill u get to the £2k+ region, i would say taylors are the best acoustic guitars you can buy

some of Ross' pieces are just mindblowingly fast...this is true. But I'm a MUCH bigger fan of Hedges sound. As Michael said himself he was more of a composer; he wasn't highly technical. And I'll take beautiful composition over the slightly funky sound of Ross anyday

Also, vacinations are a huge concern for me... I havent given my son his vacinations since his last set at 18 mths old, he is now2 yrs and 1 mth. My daughter hasnt had her shots since her 6 mth old set and she is now 14 mths old! Im concerned about them not being vacinated, although I dont feel I should posion them with mercury and all other preservitives!ALSO, my father was in Vietnam, and he was exposed to Agent Orange, he is now dieing of lung cancer, his lungs are sewed to his chest wall. :(

Its a geat way to see the tor and ruins- when i was 15 we slept in the ruins and watched the sun rise- a weird experience- thanks again for provoking the memories and with one of our fav singers
