I would not boycott the movie or anything if Welling came in, but I like Routh as he's already been established. Either way, Singer needs to stay at the helm. And Spacey was good as Luthor, he just played it differently from Hackman, who we all grew up with. Like Ledger played Joker darker, Spacy did the same with Luthor.

True, in some ways. I enjoyed the new Hulk's action storyline, but I also enjoyed Ang Lee's emotional storyline. A movie that combines Lee's story while making the Abomination the main villain would have been ideal. A movie that takes Singer's story-telling ability and making a villain like Doomsday would be ideal for Superman.

Routh was not bad. He was not as good as Reeve, but neither is Welling. Welling is perfectly fine on Smallville, but you don't switch actors in the middle of the series, look what it did to Batman. A revamp would be a major mistake.

yeah 3 and 4 sucked, it became a comedy. but i think the superman returns movie was just so off. brandon routh was BAD. im not trying to compare him with christopher reeve. because i actually like tom wellings portrayal of clark kent alot. If anyone should play superman...it should be him. a revamp would be a good idea. they could have lex in there as a bad guy but kinda lesser bad guy and bust out doomsday or braniac. and keep the plot simple

Well I saw 3 and 4 in the theatre, and they were lacking, moreso than Superman Returns, which re-connected us with the original. It wasn't as good as the original, but from the scenes with Jor-El, the crash landing of Kal-El, the rescue of the plane, and the battle with Lex, everything was reminiscient of the original Superman. Things were different: Bosworth wasn't Margot Kidder, the son storyline was over the top, and we all wanted a bigger, badder villain, but otherwise, it was excellent.

actually it is a very good idea. Superman returns lacked alot. and realy wasnt well done. i am a HUGE superman fan from the reeve movies to smallville and everything in between but superman returns pissed me off. i hope they do a revamp. make it majestic again. reconnect with younger adults. the ones (like me) who never got a chance to see a great superman film in theaters

What are you talking about? Schumacher did not do X-Men 3 or Spider-Man 1. That was Brett Ratner and Sam Raimi, respectively, and where you get the idea that Spider-Man 1 was bad is beyond me. It is one of THE best superhero movies, period. And Batman Forever wasn't bad, Batman & Robin was bad. All blame does not go to Joel Schumacher in any way.

I do consider it to be independent. I don't acknowledge Singer's claim that it takes place after part 2. That's stupid. I simply consider it a well-made movie that needs to continue instead of being shut down and re-started. That's a stupid move on the part of the idiot producers, as most producers tend to be. As for 3, I agree it wasn't 'too' bad only in the sense that it still was a Superman movie, but as much as I like Richard Pryor, he shouldn't have been the point of the film. Superman was.

Well, I just think Superman Returns needs to be independent of the Christopher Reeve series. I pretend it is anyway- as Kevin Spacey and Gene Hackman seem nothing alike. As well as Margot Kidder and Kate Bosworth along with Jackie Cooper and Frank Langella. The original movie made back in 1978 already had three sequels to follow it. And the third one was not too bad- it just did not need to spend so much time trying to be a funny thing representing the late Richard Pryor.

I don't think you're getting it. Batman Begins was a different origin story. The 89Batman doesn't go into the Ra's al-Ghul storyline or Bruce Wayne before he starts as Batman. And nobody 'gave him' a dark side apart from the comic book writers back in the 40s. And yes, the Spider-Man movies were fantastic, but the Hammond Spider-Man films were tv movies, not theatrical. Superman Returns is the Batman Begins of the Superman franchise this generation. You don't start over again when you just did.

I think in the more modern interpretations of Superman, he's more flawed, though not to an extreme degree. There will be moments of doubt, emotions getting the best of him and impairing his judgement. I think it all has to do with the times. Years ago, superheroes were, in general, simple characters and most were basically unquestionably good and flawless.

Superman in general I find to be someone I can't relate to because of his lack of wanting vengence against evil and his upright manner that only an alien being could have not a normal human being. Superman is more like a representation of an ideal person who has no inner struggle of trying to do good unlike his counterpart Batman who is a human that strives to do good in spite of his human flaws and inner struggle that haunts him and motivates him. Batman seems more human because he is human.
