For all the guys who don't know their Apple history, the powerbook g4 was discontinued in May of 2006. Unless I am missing something this does not make it ancient.

Dude, 500HHz is perfectly enough for browseing the internet and watching videos and playing DVDs, etc. I'd buy one of those, for $100, but still. That's still a very nice and useful little machine. Just because it's not fast by today's standards, dosn't mean it's a piece of shit. It's still perfectly useful. Plus, you can buy faster ones, 667MHz, 800MHz, 867MHz, 1GHz, Then came the 3rd generation PowerBook G4s 1.25GHz, 1.5GHz, 1.67GHz A 1GHz 15 inch PowerBook G4with 64MB vram is really nice.

The Wallstreet Powerbooks can be had quite cheaply these days. I snagged one from eBay, working and in decent shape, for $10. Less than $100 in upgrades later, and it's running 10.4.11 at a decent clip! I also picked up a pile of 6 Wallstreets in various working states for $20 and made 3 good working ones out of them. Various family members are now using them. A great notebook that's still useful.

They probably wanted to avoid any potential lawsuit from customers who felt misled when they didn't actually buy a "supercomputer." Not to mention that soon after the release of the G4 Titanium, cheaper notebooks became available that had better specs. The G4 Titanium had looks, but is power honestly was really not all that much better than its competitors of the day.

Even today, 1'' is pretty thin for a notebook. A lot of the newer notebooks from Apple, HP, Sony and Dell are moving towards a wedge-design that is thicker than 1'' at the back but thinner at the front.

I like PPC better then Intel as well. Running on a last revision iBook G4 for my main machine. But I don't think you are correct in saying that the G4 will not be supported after Leopard. Perhaps it will no longer support the lower-end G4's, but I imagine that the high end 1.5 and 1.67 GHz PowerBook will still be able to run 10.6 or whatever comes after Leopard, and perhaps even the 1.33 and 1.42 GHz iBook, as well as the 1.42 GHz PowerMac.
