I think that's kinda the point Channel 4 is trying to make, basically, Big Brother is like a social experiment to see how people would react to other people from different cultures and lifestyles and to see how they react to being put out of their comfort zones. Actually, the term is inaccurate. A better term instead of "megaslums," would be "supercities," or simply cities with so many people in them, that they have expanded beyond 10 million people in a city. No reason such cities must be ugly, but they could be full of gleeming beautiful skyscrapers and spacious highrise buildings and apartments and condos. The big city need not be an ominous "monster," but tends to be a bit "scary" because its sheer size, tends to be a bit "unprecendented."
