It's not really underground, being that it was started by Ammunition Promotions, which happens to be huge in the UK. Basically dubstep is a derivative of UK Garage 2-step and grime having roots in reggae as well as drum n' bass. Dubstep is like any other electronic genre in the sense that there is limited knowledge of it, just like most drum n' bass and UK garage. And it doesn't really matter who invented it, who cares, music is music, love for the music is what's important.

Dubstep needs to be heard on a system capable of smashing your chest at 30 Hz. Just to give you and idea, the low B string on a 5 string bass is 32 Hz. Recommended systems are Iration Stepppas, to be found at Exodus in Leeds, and Pineapple Tribe's Ninebar system. Re:volve in Bradford is a small venue, but their 4 subs will hapily stop you inhaling. Google and travel people!

think that's all it is, when i first started listening, i didn't see the big deal, i thought it sucked to be quite honest. I'm not one to give up at the first hurdle though and now i love it! once you get in to the flow of it i find it hard not to bop! the darker and dirtier the better! Also has to be loud and on a good sound system!
