The AK cartridge (7.62x39mm) is a .308 Caliber bullet. It isn't the same length as say the M14's cartridge (7.62x51mm) but they are both the same caliber. This guy is right. The 7.62x39mm AK and the 7.62x51mm NATO rounds are the same caliber just different lengths. They are both .308s. When they give a bullet length and width in mm (7.62x39mm, 5.56x45mm, etc.) the first number is the width, the second is the length.

Also snipers need to take into account different wind speeds, velocity and distance. Modern times its easy to know because snipers are paired up, but in Vietnam it'd be a whole different story, lone sniper in a stressful situation (The war) with the added problem of trees, strubbery etc.
