Soseki Natsume was transferred to Matsuyama as a senior high school teacher in 1895. He loved taking a bath in the famous Dogo Hot Spring and often used the railway to commute to there. His famous novel Botchan (1906) uniquely depicted both the Dogo Hot Spring and the railway service of those days.

One of the sumo-like bouts fought with portable shrines in Matsuyama's annual fall Mikoshi festival. Though it may appear sped up at times, I assure you that's only because the men in the video are *very* animated and passionate about what they're doing. These bouts take place near Dogo Onsen and the Botchan Karakuri Clock (visible in the background).
