Video duration: 269 seconds "The Yellow Album" is the first full-length album produced and performed entirely on the Korg Kaossilator handheld synthesizer. No other effects, EQ or sounds were added. All 17 tracks were digitally recorded direct from the Kaossilator's line outputs. The only external editing was simple volume balancing. I actually got to play with it! and i've drawn many conclusions. Depending on the band, I'd almost certainly say that this is not an instrument to accompany with. If it had a legitimate keyboard, maybe. But then I can't see the same versatile XY properties... I also tried compensating by getting a MINI Korg KP (100 XY touchpad-controller for effects) and hook it up to a synth. And it is really hard to play with an XY and a keyboard for me. But thats just me.

The Kaossilator comes with no cables or wires or software. It has no save capabilities and that's one of the biggest complaints. If you come across something you want to keep from it your only option is to record it directly to an external recorder of some kind via your own audio cables. Either using RCA audio jacks or 1/8" stereo headphone jack.

It's my understanding that the Kaoss pads are more focused on effects processing, with perhaps some limited sampling capabilities. Unlike those, the Kaosillator does not have any audio input or effects capabilities short of the effects preset in its sounds. It is a sound source in itself, namely a handheld synth with a number of preset sounds and a loop recorder included. The recorder is limited to a small # of bars of internal sounds only. More detailed info is available on the Korg site.

I have a few questions about this little guy that guitar center couldn't answer. Its not the same thing as a kaoss pad 3 is it? that is to say, that if I bought a kaoss pad 3, it would be the same thing as the kaossilator, just more features? As far as I can tell, the kaoss pad seems just to be a beat mixing machine.

Awesome work with this thing. After watching videos on youtube I got this thing and made one of my own... only had it for a day and already made what you can see on my account. Incredibly easy and awesomely fun to use.

Thanks for the note. It's comments like yours that convinced the people at Korg that my "Yellow Album" had swayed a number of people into buying Kaossilators. Korg ended up being very gracious in rewarding me some other products gratis for my contribution. I thought that was nice considering they didn't have any real obligation. But the guys over at Korg seemed like very cool people; just as cool as their products. Thanks again for your kind feedback and have fun with the new toy. -G

Basically you encode first to .flv before uploading to YouTube. This "fools" their auto-decoder into thinking it can just post the file as-is. It was still a pain and took four separate tries uploading before it finally took because it also has to be under a certain size but no one could tell me what that is as it's probably diff for each vid depending on its length. I used a program called Riva FLV encoder. You can Google for more info.
