Istanbul is a great city. I was there for a week in September. The British have really negative views about it, but it is beautiful, vibrant, has great restaurants and bars, friendly people. I felt safe walking around at night - very different to any British city. It's also clean - and the weather was great. Most people who criticise it have never been there. In contrast Dubai is a soulless, sanitised hell on earth. Only someone braindead could prefer it to Istanbul.
