Hmmm, no. Nat was born in 1919. Forty years later would be 1959. A person born in 1959 would be 50 in less than a year (before the gangster rap generation still). On top of that, he had too much class for such music. Belafonte, now he'd be a gangsta rapper!

I don't know if anyone has said this on the internet before, but that song was "borrowed" from a Trinidadian calypsonian (singer) called "Lord Melody". I don't believe he ever got the credit for it though :-(
